The Big V Amateur Comedy Competition: The Regional Finals
02 April 2018 7:30 pm
Can you hold your nerve? Can you get up on stage for 10 minutes and make people laugh? Can you make them cry, fall off their seats, double up in hysterics? And can you impress the judges on the night who will be marking your every move?
That’s the challenge that was given to over 150 budding amateur comedians in the region. And after heats and finals in cities as far flung as Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangkok, that 150 has been whittled down to seven. Seven budding comics who will be battling it out for the Funniest Newcomer Award 2018. Oh, and did we mention the grand prize of VND22 million (that’s US$1,000 to you and me).
The first of a week of shows that make up the Magners International Comedy Festival 2018, representing Vietnam will be two gagsters who have already proven themselves on the local stage. From Hanoi we have the seahorse-loving, British-born comic, Glyn Richards, while holding the flag for Ho Chi Minh City is Uy Le, the winner of the local competition when it was held in Saigon in January.
And our host for the night will be the much-loved South African comedian, Thenjiwe Mosely. Also on stage for a special set will be Canadian comic, Craig Campbell.
So will you come out and support Vietnam’s talented comedians? Forget the X Factor or The Voice. The Big V is where it’s at.
Doors will open at 6pm on Monday, April 2nd and the show will kick off at 7.30pm on the third floor of Caravelle Saigon (19 Cong Truong Lam Son, Q1, HCMC).
