Hope for Endangered Primate

Written by

Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is celebrating the discovery of a new population of the elusive grey-shanked douc, a critically endangered primate which is found only in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. It was thought there were only 800 to 1,000 grey-shanked doucs left in the world, but the new discovery adds at least 500 to that count. Doucs are targeted for the illegal wildlife trade and are hunted for bush meat, traditional medicine and the pet trade.

FFI is presently working on the possibility of running ecotourism journeys through the forest, during which visitors would get to experience the extraordinary beauty of the jungle and people of the Central Highlands as well as the possibility of seeing the douc in the wild.
